The Chaves fire burning 4 miles east of Highway 50 on Ft. Churchill Road in Lyon County jumped to 3,050 acres as of 5:30 p.m. Monday.
CLCFPD has listed the Chavez fire as burning 3050 acres. The fire was reported about 3 p.m. Sunday. Lyon County Manager Jeff Page confirmed two people target shooting was the cause of the fire. Central Lyon County Fire Protection District, BLM and the Nevada Division of Forestry are conducting a joint investigation.
As of 5:30 p.m. Monday the fire had been 75 percent contained. Crews were building a line around the fire with dozers, handcrews and aircraft.
There were no evacuation orders in place, no reported injuries or structures threatened or damaged.
The fuels in the area are “light” according to the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center.
Central Lyon County Fire Protection District, BLM, Nevada Division of Forestry and local jurisdictions were on scene.
Another fire, the HWY208 fire in Mason Valley is 100 percent contained. Page said 11-12 acres of heavy brush burned. NDF and Mason Valley Fire Protection District were mopping up hot spots Monday morning.
