10-year-olds last Carson City All-Star team in title contention

The Carson 10-year-old all-star team is the only city squad still in contention for a district championship after a 19-7 thrashing of Sparks National on Saturday at Governors Field.

The 10s, 2-1 in tournament play, have a lot of work to do coming out of the championship loser’s bracket. The team plays Sunday against Carson Valley or Washoe.

Carson exploded for 15 runs and 10 hits in the third inning to take control. Kale Thompson, Eastyn Hendrix, Nick Heald, Tyler Silsby, Ethan Cook, Kaiden Kuhlman, Noah Hutchinson and Chase Grundy all hit safely in the big inning.

Silsby, Head, Grundy and Ash Wilkin finished with three hits apiece. Thompson had a double and inside-the-park homer.

The news wasn’t so good for the 11s and 12s, however. The 11s lost 17-8 to North Tahoe and the 12s were dominated by Reno Continental, 17-4. The 11s and 12s are now in the consolation bracket.

The 11s bolted to an early 4-0 lead in the first, as DeMarcus Brewster bashed a run-scoring double and Jeremy Hernandez added a two-run double.

North Tahoe tied it at 4 in the top of the third, as Oscar Whelan, Noah Glickman, Colton Barraza, Leyton Roberts and Lucas MacDonald all hit safely. Carson broke the tie with two runs in the bottom of the third thanks to two North Tahoe errors and singles by Jesse Freeman and Hernandez.

North Tahoe exploded for nine runs in the top of the fourth, sending 13 hitters to the plate en route to a 13-6 lead. Carson fought back with two in the bottom of the inning as Freeman walked with the bases full and Hernandez delivered another run-scoring hit, but it just wasn’t enough. North Tahoe iced the game with four runs in the top of the sixth, as MacDonald delivered a run-scoring double.

The 12s put together five hits in the first inning en route to scoring twice. Justin McCraw, Yaki Glenn, Isaac Felix, Kincaid Gill and Hayden White all hit safely. That first inning was Carson’s highlight.

Reno Continental scored 10 runs in the third to put the game away. The game was stopped after four innings on the 10-run rule.
