Carson 10s win to stay alive

And then there was one.

The Carson City 10s routed South Tahoe 17-0 in a consolation game to remain alive in that bracket of the District 1 All-Star Tournament Monday night at Governors Field.

The news wasn’t good for the 11 and 12-year-old teams as both were eliminated. The 11s dropped a 7-6 thriller to South Tahoe, while the 12s dropped an 11-7 decision to Truckee.

The Carson 10s cruised in their win, scoring four in the first and 10 in the second. The game was stopped after four innings because of the 10-run rule.

Carson had just one hit the first inning — Carson White’s two-run single — in the four-run first.

The locals sent 14 hitters to the plate in the second, using five walks, four errors and five hits to score 10 times. Eastyn Hendrix, Ryker Russell and Kaiden Kuhlman all had run-scoring hits. Hendrix actually had two hits in the inning.

In the fourth, Tyler Silsby doubled in a run and Ethan Cook had a run-scoring single. An error accounted for the third run of the inning.

Noah Hutchison was outstanding on the mound. South Tahoe had just one runner reach third base, and that was in the second.

The Carson 11s trailed 6-4 entering the bottom of the fifth, but rallied to tie it at 6 thanks to two walks, a wild pitch on Nate Freed’s infield out and an error.

South Tahoe went ahead 7-6 in the top of the sixth. Atticus Knudsen walked and stole second, and scored on a two-out error on River Jones’ routine fly ball to center that was dropped.

South Tahoe’s Kyle Herrera struck out the side in the bottom of the sixth to preserve the victory.

Tavin Miller, Jesse Freeman and DeMarco Brewster led Carson with two hits. Ryder Kiel and Jeremy Hernandez added one each. Kiel drove in a run in the second and Hernandez’s double gave Carson a 4-3 lead after four. Miller drove in Carson’s first run with his single.

Jones and Elijah Hammer led South Tahoe with two hits apiece.

Truckee scored 10 runs in the first three innings to take control against the Carson 12s.

Carson valiantly fought back and even got the tying run to the plate in the sixth, but was unable to capitalize.

Tallan Duran led Carson with three hits, while Isaac Felix and Nolan Pedersen added two hits apiece. Keagan Ferris, Tristan Hawkins, Justin McCraw, Justin Fry and Yaki Glenn all had one hit apiece.

The Carson 10s return to action today against Carson Valley at 5 p.m.

The three-team Junior League tournament gets underway Wednesday at 6 p.m. with Reno American facing Carson City.

The winner of that game will face Reno National Thursday at 6 with the loser advancing to a consolation game on Saturday at 10 a.m. The championship game is slated for Sunday at 10 a.m.
