Carson City 10s tournament run comes to an end

Carson City’s 10-year-old all-star team had its run through the consolation bracket ended by Truckee Little League, 9-4, Thursday night at Governors Field.

Carson City finished the tournament with a 3-3 record. Two of the three losses came at the hands of Truckee.

Carson lost to Truckee, 16-14, earlier in the tournament. In that game, Carson fell behind 10-0 in the first inning, and on Thursday, the locals trailed 5-1 after two innings.

Truckee used three walks, two singles and an error to grab a quick 3-0 advantage.

Vincent Long singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. Kiefer Willcox walked, and both runners advanced on a passed ball. Ivan Esparza followed with a two-run single. The third run scored on Trevor Bogan’s fielder’s choice.

Carson trimmed the deficit to 3-1 in the top of the second on a run-scoring single by Ryker Russell, but Truckee retaliated with two in the second on just one hit, an infield single by Long. The runs scored on a wild pitch and passed ball.

Truckee increased its lead to 8-1 in the fourth with three runs, sending eight players to the plate. Two walks and singles by Cortez Sherman, Rowan Glad and Granite Videgan accounted for the runs.

Carson put together its best inning of the game in the fifth.

Ash Wilkin singled and moved to second when Carson White’s groundball was misplayed. After a wild pitch put runners on second and third, Nick Heald was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After Drew Wilkin struck out for the first out, Ethan Cook forced Heald at second. Ash Wilkin and White both scored on the play to make it 8-3. Noah Hutchison and Tyler Silsby connected for singles, the latter scoring a run to make it 8-4.

Truckee retaliated with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Carson put runners on second and third in the top of the sixth, but Long struck out the final batter to end the game.
