Carson High’s baseball team split its two games at the Mike Bearman Tournament on Saturday at Ron McNutt Field.
The Senators opened with a 6-3 loss to Sierra League rival Douglas, and then bounced back for a 10-5 win over Fernley.
Carson returns to action Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. at Reno in the first of a two-game series to open the Northern 4A baseball season.
Douglas grabbed an early 4-0 lead, but the Senators bounced back, cutting the lead to 4-2 on a two-run hit by Abel Carter. The Senators closed to 4-3 with a single run, but Douglas scored two in the fourth.
Kahle Good went 2-for-4, and Landon Truesdale and Carter had a hit apiece.
Avery Powell threw 3.2 innings of scoreless relief for the Senators. Colby Zemp took the loss, allowing four earned runs in 3.1 innings.
In the win over Fernley, Jared Barnard was 3-for-3 with two RBI. Good went 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Carter and Delsin Roberts each went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Max Fontaine threw well, allowing a run and five hits over three innings.
Dust Devils split
YERINGTON – Dayton finished the weekend 3-1 after losing to Bishop, 4-3, and routing Tonopah, 14-1.
In the win over Tonopah, Tyler Stolfich and Justin Schmidt combined for a three-inning no-hitter. The game was stopped because of the run rule.
Stolfich helped his own cause with two hits and three RBI, and Zach Woitas also had two hits and three RBI.
In the loss to Bishop, Trevor Burrows went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one on a single and one on a sacrifice fly. Jake Madsen went 2-3.
The Dust Devils play Truckee Friday and Saturday.
Falcons win two more
SMITH — Sierra Lutheran moved to 4-0 on the season with two wins at the Smith Valley Tournament.
The Falcons beat Smith Valley, 7-4, and Whittell, 6-5. Both games went 4 innings due to the time limit.
Against Smith Valley, Sierra Lutheran scored seven in the fourth to wipe out a 2-0 deficit. Zak Houghton had a two-run hit to spark the rally.
Against Whittell, the Falcons scored three times in their last at-bat to win.
“I was impressed with the guys we had out there,” said assistant coach Brandon Neal. “We experimented in this one, and the guys showed us that they can have anything thrown at them and still succeed.
“Impressed with the team as a whole today. We faced some tough pitching from both Smith and Whittell, but the guys came through. They showed that they can win no matter the circumstances.”

Cooley shines in win; CHS wins 2
ELK GROVE, Calif. — Kassidy Cooley went 3-for-3 and drove in a run to lead Carson to a 7-4 win over Lodi at the Elk Grove TOC.
Carson snapped a 4-all tie in the bottom of the fifth with three runs, one coming on an RBI triple by Cooley.
Jailene Salciedo added two hits, and Lauren Lemburg and Kedre Luschar both went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Amaya Mendeguia went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
In its second game of the day, Carson carved out a 7-1 win over Laguna Creek, as Salciedo threw four innings and allowed just four hits. She helped herself at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Carson took control with a five-run second inning, as Kedre Luschar, Terryn Earle and Salciedo all had run-scoring hits. Kedre Luschar went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs. Lauren Hawkins also had two hits.
Dust Devils off to fast start
YERINGTON — The Dust Devils capped off a perfect weekend with two more wins Saturday, 8-2 over Bishop and 11-6 over Sparks.
Friday, Dayton topped Truckee, 8-0, and Yerington 15-10. Amanda Woitas threw a 2-hitter in the win over Truckee. She was aided by a four-run first inning that saw Julie Rogacs, Elizabeth Vincent and Caleigh Onstott knock run-scoring hits.
In the win over Yerington, Onstott slugged homers in her first two at-bats and finished with four RBI. Rogacs went 2-for-3 and Marissa Hein drove in three and Vincent two.
Against Bishop, Dayton scored five in the fifth to break open a 3-2 game. Tamia Powell, Onstott, Rogacs and Vincent all went 2-for-3. Vincent drove in two runs.
In the win over Sparks, Woitas went 4-for-4 with two RBI, Rogacs went 3-for-4 and drove in two, and Hein drove in two. Powell contributed a two-run triple.
TRACK
Dayton boys 3rd
FALLON — The Dayton High boys track team started the season with a third-place finish at the 3A meet at Churchill County High School.
The top performer was David Delfin, who won the shot (38-1) and discus (131-0). Jeff Walker won the pole vault (11-3) and was second in the 300 hurdles at 44.21. The Dust Devils won the 1600 relay in 4:11.25. Jason Logan was fourth in the 800 (2:20.11) and Austin Lunz was fourth in the discus at 95 feet.
The Dayton girls were fourth despite outstanding efforts by Rebecca and Ashley Mason.
Ashley Mason won the triple jump with a leap of 35-feet and took the long jump with a mark of 16-3 1/2. Rebecca Mason won the 400 in 1:08.27, was fourth in the 300 hurdles in 55.82 and was second in the high jump at 4-8. Sydney Strickler was second in the 100 (13.66) and 200 (28.47).
Sierra Lutheran opens at Silver Stage
SILVER SPRINGS — Peyton Hedwall won the shot (45-5 1/2) and discus (121-4) and Jared Marchegger cruised to a win in the 1600 (4:53.69) to lead the Falcons.
The Falcons won the 1600 and 3200 relay events, and finished second in the 400 and 800 relays. Bret Walker was second in the shot (41-7 1/2) and second in the discus (114-3 1/2). Rant Goins was second in the high jump at 5-6 and third in the 100 at 12.24.
Rachel Hall won the 100 hurdles in 19.02. The Falcons won the 800 relay and were third in the 400 relay.
