Lindsey Drew says he wants to play for Nevada Wolf Pack next year

ATLANTA — Nevada’s injured point guard Lindsey Drew was on the sidelines at practice Wednesday afternoon at Phillips Arena.

Drew, who ruptured his Achilles on the last play of the first half at Boise State, did a couple of interviews with the local media in town for the Sweet 16. He didn’t accompany the team to Nashville last week.

“The surgery went well,” Drew said. “I have to go back and see the doctor in a couple of weeks. I’m on my third cast. I had one on when I woke up from surgery, and I got another one a couple of weeks later. This last one I got last week I can walk with it.

“It’s not as hard as I thought (being around and not playing). At this point, I’m just as happy as everybody else as what we’re doing for the city and the school. It was harder when I first came back to the team.”

In terms of his recovery, Drew said he wants to play basketball next year, meaning he’d rather play part of the season rather than stay in school an extra year.

Easy to see his reasoning. Nevada could be every bit as good next year as it is this year. If he sits out a season, that might not be the case.

Drew said he will make a decision based on his health. He said he won’t go out and play at less than 100 percent.
