The Greenwave boys and girls swimming teams cruised to an easy win over Sparks on Thursday while also competing against Damonte Ranch, Galena, Reno and Incline in Reno.
The boys team defeated the Railroaders, 125-29, while the girls squad won, 136-13. Sparks had entries in only four events, winning just one, the boys 200-yard freestyle.
“We had several kids make regional qualifying times in new events,” Fallon coach Ken Grimes said. “I’m very pleased with the work the kids have put in and they continue to improve each week.”
Grimes said Christian Nemeth, Hannah Rochna, Dominic Schulenberg, Emily Giovanetti, Donovan Wright and Larissa Sanches posted regional-qualifying times in multiple events in the win over Sparks.
In the events against the Railroaders, Ashby Trotter led both teams in the 50-yard free with a time of 31.41 seconds followed by Bailey Diede in 36.28. Nemeth, Schulenberg and Wright led the boys over Sparks in the 50-yard free with Nemeth posting a 25.75. Schulenberg scored a 27.58 followed by Wright’s 28.21.
Ruben Alanis won the boys 100-yard free against Sparks with a 59.64, which was good for second among all schools. Schulenberg took third overall in 1:04.645, followed by Justin Bivens in seventh at 1:08.77 and Kaweepat Honnsiri in 1:10.70.
The team’s only loss to Sparks came in the boys 200-yard free with Hoonsiri taking fifth overall in 2:46.49. Sparks’ Adrian Castaneda was third in 2:19.11.
Top-five finishes for Fallon among all schools came in the boys 200-yard medley relay where Kaden Grimes, Alanis, Nemeth and Schulenberg finished in 2:04.09 for third. Rochna took third in the girls 200-yard individual medley in 2:25.74, Nemeth finished the same event for the boys in third in 2:24.75 and Giovanetti took third in the girls 100-yard free in 1:06.13. Sanches finished fifth in the girls 500-yard free to improve her time by 12 seconds in 6:59.05 and Trotter was third in the girls 100-yard breaststroke in 1:28.47.
The relay team of Karley Frederick, Rochna, Trotter and Giovanetti finished fourth in the 200-yard free in 2:08.23 while the boys counterpart of Ruben, Schulenberg, Nemeth Bivens took third in 1:47.11. Alanis was fifth in the boys 100-yard breaststroke in 1:14.16 and the team of Bivens, Hoonsiri, Donnovan Wright and Morgan McAlexander took third in the 400-yard free relay in 4:53.76.
