Lady Wave softball team dominates South Tahoe

Dominating the circle and the plate, the Lady Wave softball team kicked off the 3A Northern season in grand style.

The pitching trio of Faith Cornmesser, Hannah Hitchcock and Ashley Agaman combined to allow only four hits in three wins over South Tahoe on Friday and Saturday at the Edward Arciniega Athletic Complex. Fallon defeated the visitors 15-0 on Friday and 16-1 and 20-0 in Saturday’s doubleheader.

All three games ended early due to the 10-run rule.

“We had a very good weekend. I am very proud of the girls and the enthusiasm that they brought to each game this last weekend,” Fallon coach Kasey Chu said. “All three pitchers threw great games and our defense made some very good plays.”

Cornmesser set the tone for the two-day series right away by striking out five in a three-inning performance during Friday’s 15-0 win. Stacey Kalt came one hit away from the cycle, needing a single, to drive in six runs in three at-bats, while Shelbi Schultz, Macie Anderson and Cornmesser each drove in two for Fallon, which scored 11 runs in the first inning and four in the second frame. The game ended after 2 1/2 innings.

Kalt was a monstrous force at the dish in Saturday’s first game, a 16-1 victory.

The senior blasted two more home runs in three at-bats to finish with four RBIs and Cornmesser added to her RBI total, driving in four on two hits. Jordan Beyers connected for a home run, as well, and drove in four on three hits as Fallon ended the game after four innings.

Agaman picked up the win in the circle, going four innings and striking out three. She gave up one earned run and two walks.

In Saturday’s 20-0 win, Hitchcock threw three innings, yielding only one hit while striking out five with no walks. Hitchcock also shined at the plate, hitting a home run in a three-hit performance to drive in three runs.

Welch also went deep with a home run and also singled in a four-RBI showing. Beyers, Cornmesser and Lorynn Fagg also drove in four runs on three hits for the Lady Wave.

“It was exciting to get out and play and to see these girls really come together as one unit,” Chu said.

Fallon, which faced Fernley on Tuesday, returns to action on Friday when it hosts Truckee at 3 p.m. to kick off a three-game series.
