Carson High baseball beats Deer Valley in California

Two-run outbursts in the third and fourth innings carried the Carson Senators to a 9-4 win over Deer Valley in a non-league baseball game Wednesday in Antioch, California.

The win was the second straight for Carson on its five-game Bay Area road trip. Carson plays at Pinole Valley on Friday, then completes the trip with a doubleheader on Saturday at St. Mary’s-Berkeley.

Deer Valley took a 1-0 lead in the second. The run was unearned, as Abel Carter and Jared Barnard were both charged with errors.

Carson took the lead for good in the third with the first of its two-run innings.

Carter singled, stole second and moved to third on Joh Ingram’s infield out. Kahle Good walked, and then Good and Carter pulled off a double steal, tying the game at 1. Good scored from third on Barnard’s groundball to short.

Carson made it 4-1 in the fourth when Vernon Painter doubled and moved to third when Delsin Roberts’ groundball was misplayed. Josh Buchan followed with a two-run single. Carson had a chance to do more damage, but Barnard rolled out to end the inning.

The Senators made it 5-1 in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Roberts. Carson tacked on another run in the sixth when Carter doubled and eventually scored on a passed ball. Carson made it 9-1 in the top of the seventh.

Deer Valley scored three times in the seventh.

Landon Truesdale led the Carson attack with three hits.

Max Fontaine, Hayden Hudson, Zach Glanzmann, Kyle Glanzmann and Avery Powell all pitched for Carson.

Spanish Springs tops Douglas

MINDEN — Aubrey Parks doubled and homered to support the five-hit pitching performance of Tyra Clary on Wednesday as Spanish Springs posted a 6-1 win against Douglas softball in a showdown between Northern 4A conference leaders.

Parks doubled and scored on a Hunter Travers double to spark a three-run fifth inning rally that gave Spanish Springs (4-0 conference, 8-0 overall) some breathing room against Douglas (5-1, 8-2).

Clary, who earned Northern 4A Pitcher of the Year honors as a freshman in 2017, scattered five hits with no walks and eight strikeouts.

Douglas scored its only run in the fourth inning when Haley Doughty slammed a one-out home run over the left field fence to make it 5-1.

The Cougars answered in the top of the fifth when Parks hit a solo home run over the left field fence.
