Wave track and field finishes 2nd at Lowry

Fallon got a good glimpse of how this weekend’s regional meet will look as the Greenwave track and field team took second in both the boys and girls divisions of Saturday’s Lowry Invitational.

Elko won both divisions, 131-130.5 over Fallon in the boys and 197-119 over Fallon in the girls, as the 3A Northern competes in the regional meet in Yerington on Friday and Saturday. The state meet is next weekend in Carson City.

Drake Copley won both the 100- and 200-meter dashes in 11.26 and 22.86 seconds with the latter turning into a personal best. Colton Peterson finished third in the 100 in 11.41, a season record, and Jacob Weber also had a season best in the 100 and personal best in the 200, finishing both in 12.16 for 10th and 24.17 for sixth.

The 4x100 and 4x200 relay team of Peterson, Copley, Reid Clyburn and Broder Thurston won both races, breaking the school record again in the 4x200. They finished the 4x100 race in 44.19 and 4x200 in 1:30.88.

J.R. Demillo won the 800 in 2:07.48, a personal best, and Angelo Vann finished ninth in the 400 in 58.56. Daniel Tapia, who was 11th in the 800 with a personal-best 2:18.67, took sixth in the 1600 with another personal best 4:59.07. Justin Cathey quickly followed with a 4:59.53 for seventh.

Clyburn won the 300 hurdles with a season-best 41.67 and took third in the 110 hurdles in 17.07. Trevor East finished second in the 110 hurdles in 16.81, a personal best, while Trevor Brown was seventh in 17.99 and also seventh in the 300 hurdles in 45.44.

The 4x800 team of Cathey, Demillo, Tapia and Bryan Ugalde finished third in 9:04.95 and the 4x400 team of William Dick, Tyler Marsh, Zeke Washington and Clayton Steelmon finished fourth in 3:55.50.

In the field, East won the triple jump with a leap of 40 feet, 6 inches, followed by Thurston at 37-5. East finished third in the long jump in 18-7 while Cathey took second in the high jump at 5-8. Brown finished ninth in the pole vault at 8-6.

Micah Whitaker finished eighth in the discus with a personal best 122-07 while Weber led in the shot put with a 14th-place finish and personal-best 36-7.50.

Like her counterpart, Kyndal Collins won both the 100 and 200 in 13.18 and 26.91, a season best. Fiona White and Vera Vaz led in the 400, finishing 12th and 13th, respectively, in 1:09.50 and 1:16.30, both personal bests.

Makayle Mathisen finished fourth in the 800 in 2:36.96 followed by Savannah Robinson in fifth at 2:44.01, a personal best. Mathisen also took third in the 1600 in 5:31.12, a personal best. Shelby Hickox finished fourth in the 100 hurdles with a season-best 18.65 and fifth in the 300 hurdles in 53.57.

The 4x100 relay team of Aisha Sharron, Sierra Hickox, Brynlee Shults and Collins finished second in 52.58 while the 4x200 team of Allie Lister, Hailey Guerrero, Collins and Shults also took second in 1:51.77. The 4x800 team of Jordyn Dahl, Vaz, Robinson and Mathisen finished second in 10:53.10, and the 4x400 team of both Hickox sisters, Mathisen and Lister was fourth in 4:37.39.

Shults finished second in the triple jump at 33-9, followed by Sierra Hickox in third at 32-11 and both Lister and Sharron at 31-1 for fifth. Shults also took fourth in the long jump at 15 feet. Lister won the pole vault with a personal-best 9-3 and Guerrero finished fourth at 7 feet. She also tied for sixth at 4-4 with Sharron in the high jump.

Jazmyne Bullock led the team in the shot put with a throw of 22-9 for 18th and White followed in 19th at 22-1 with both girls’ throws being a personal best. White had a personal-best 65-3 in the discus for 18th.
