A man was killed as the result of a vehicle crash early Friday in Dayton. Juan Jesus Orozco, 28, of South Lake Tahoe was killed as a result of the crash.
At 4:20 a.m., Nevada Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to a serious injury crash on Highway 50 near the intersection of Fortune Drive in Dayton. Preliminary investigation shows a red 2000 Audi S4 sedan was traveling westbound on US-50 east of Fortune Drive at a high rate of speed.
The driver of the Audi lost control and drove onto the raised concrete center median, striking a reflective sign and several marker posts. The Audi rotated and slid broadside across both westbound travel lanes. The vehicle struck a crash attenuator and subsequently struck a utility pole on the outside shoulder.
The impact caused the rear portion of the Audi to become wrapped around the utility pole and the front portion to separate, which came to rest on the outside shoulder facing east. Both occupants of the vehicle were ejected from the vehicle upon impact. The driver of the Audi, Orozco, died at the scene. The adult male passenger was transported via CareFlight to Renown with life threatening injuries. As of Friday afternoon he remained in critical condition. Impairment is suspected in this crash.
The Nevada Highway Patrol is seeking additional witnesses to this crash.
