From Monday: ••• Gov. Steve Sisolak has ordered a snow day for state workers in Carson City, sending all non-essential state workers home for the rest of the day. The order was issued effective at 1:30 p.m. At 2 p.m., Carson City closed its offices. "Due to the inclement weather and dangerous road conditions the City Manager and Mayor have decided to close all City offices and allow City employees (other than essential public safety personnel) to leave at 2 p.m. today," said a press release from the city. "All offices will resume regular hours tomorrow, February 5, at 8:00 a.m. For non-emergency calls dial (775) 887-2343 and for emergencies dial 9-1-1." Sisolak said public safety and corrections personnel will remain on the job. "Due to inclement weather & potentially dangerous road conditions reported by @nevadadot & @NevadaDPS in the Carson City/Reno area, I've ordered all state gov offices to be closed effective 1:30 pm in Carson City. Safety & well-being of state employees are of my utmost concern," he said in a Tweet. He said his office, the Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Safety will continue to monitor the weather and road conditions to determine if government officers in Reno should also be closed. The shut down was ordered because of the continued snowfall in the capital making road conditions unsafe. Carson City Sheriff and Carson City officials have asked for residents to limit their travel. "Plow and sand operations will continue as necessary, until the storm clears; heavy snow until tomorrow morning. Please use extreme caution and limit your travel," Furlong said in an email. ••• UPDATE, 11:38 a.m., Monday: Due to inclement weather, Western Nevada College's campuses in Carson City and Douglas will close at 1 p.m. The WNC Fallon campus will be open and classes on that campus are in session. CALTRANS reports via Twiter that Interstate 80 is closed from the Nevada State Line to Applegate due to whiteout conditions. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning through 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Snow accumulation of 5-10 inches is possible from Carson City southward, the NWS said. Snow totals above 5,000 feet could be 12 to 24 inches with snow drifts deeper than 2 feet and wind gusts as high as 50 mph.
