Tibetan monks are returning to Carson City.
The Tibetan monks of Gaden Shartse Monastery are returning to Carson City.
The monks are visiting from Jan. 15-20 and will be building a Manjushri sand mandala at the Brewery Arts Center as well as holding Buddhist philosophy discussions, healing ceremonies, guided meditations, calligraphy and sand mandala workshops, and blessings for individuals, homes, and businesses.
Sand mandalas are artistic representations of specific Buddhist teachings, and the one the monks will be constructing symbolizes the need to sever ignorance and attachment in oneself.
The Gaden Shartse Monastic College, founded in 1969, is in southern India and has more than 1,500 resident students, teachers, scholars, and spiritual practitioners.
The stop in Carson City is part of a two-year tour of the United States, which includes Placerville, South Lake Tahoe, and Truckee.
