A traffic stop resulted in the seizure of more than 12 ounces of methamphetamine and paraphernalia on Friday night.
According to a press release from the Carson City Sheriff's Office, the Tri-County (Lyon, Douglas, Carson City) Gang Unit completed a traffic offense stop shortly before 6 p.m. on Friday. During the traffic citation process, a K-9 drug detection unit conducted an exterior “sniff” and alerted to the presence of drugs. A probable cause search followed and over 12 ounces of methamphetamine was seized from the driver, along with paraphernalia. Gregory Kelly Jr., 32, the owner and operator of the vehicle, was arrested and charged with felony trafficking a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to 0bey a traffic signal. Bail is set at $250,000.
Following Kelly’s arrest, the Gang Unit deputies shared the information with the Carson City Special Enforcement Unit. A search warrant for Kelly’s residence was received from the Carson City Courts, and executed at the 1800 block of East Long Street. The search of the residence yielded a stolen .45 semi-auto pistol, $1,400 cash, methamphetamine paraphernalia and scales, a baggie containing 310 grams of methamphetamine, and additional drug related items. Additional charges were submitted for the following felonies: trafficking a controlled substance, possession of stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by ex-felon, possession of controlled substance for sale, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
