Sports roundup: Carson High boys, girls fall to Reno

The Carson High boys basketball team got off to a strong start against Reno on Friday, but eventually the Huskies were able to take control as they beat the Senators, 62-50.

Parsa Hadjighasemi hit two three-pointers for CHS as the Senators went on an 8-0 run in erasing a 7-2 deficit to take a 10-7 lead. After Reno went on a 7-0 run, Joey Summers hit a three to pull Carson to within 14-13 late in the first quarter. Reno eventually pulled away to take a 28-19 halftime lead.

Hadjighasemi hit another three to pull CHS to within 40-30 as the Senators closed to within 42-34, but that was as close as Carson would get.

Hadjighasemi scored 15 points, Summers had 12 points, seven assists, five rebounds and three steals and Colton Schaefer had a double double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Carson coach Jordan Glover also pointed out his team took five charges in the game.

CHS girls fall

Kaitlynn Biassou scored 21 points to lead Reno to a 51-20 win over Carson. Abby Golik scored six points and Bella Kordonowy added four points for CHS.

“They’re a very good team,” Carson coach Doug Whisler said. “They’re probably the best team in the North. It shows us if we want to get competitive where we have to get too.”

Dayton girls fall

The Dayton girls basketball team fell to North Valleys, 39-11, on Saturday. Dayton trailed 6-0 after one quarter and 18-3 at halftime.

“The second half, we came out faster and more aggressive,” Dayton coach Kelly Frantz said.

Eden Evans scored five points and Faith Reid added five points and five rebounds.

“I thought we played well defensively, but if we had hit a couple more shots early on we would have been able to stay in the game and compete,” Frantz said.
