The Popcorn Stand: Not good to think outside the (Bird) box

In my latest “these kids today, whaddaya gonna do” rant, the old fuddy duddy has just learned about another not-so common sense thing young people do that has become a trend.

I just wish these young people would learn from my father’s generation and go back to doing things like eating goldfish and trying to stuff themselves in phone booths or small cars. Or be as boring as my generation and just do things like play Hacky Sack. Actually I’m encouraged to see Hacky Sack seems to making at least a little bit of a comeback, so there’s hope for today’s younger generation.

I would even take the young whipper snappers (look it up Millennials) sticking to planking, which was boring and senseless, but didn’t seem to hurt anybody. But I know planking is so 2011 or thereabouts.

The latest challenge our young people are doing is the “Bird Box” Challenge, which again I just found out about. Basically in the Bird Box Challenge, young people try to do ordinary tasks while blindfolded.

This challenge has been inspired by the Netflix movie “Bird Box,” starring Sandra Bullock in which people have to wear blindfolds to avoid looking at monsters who force them to kill themselves. At least Generation Xers didn’t go out and drive buses as fast as they could after “Speed.” They just stuck to being “Dumb and Dumber.”

In a recent Bird Box Challenge a Utah teenager tried to drive a vehicle blindfolded and of course the teenager hit another vehicle. It turns out the 17-year-old girl was driving with a 16-year-old passenger at the time.

The end result was two mangled vehicles surrounded by snow-covered sidewalks, so that tells you the conditions the 17-year-old girl faced when trying to do her version of the Bird Box Challenge. Luckily no one was hurt.

My advice to the Millennials is stick to Hacky Sack.
