Accident: Wallace Smith who is employed on his land had his hand terribly injured by the explosion of a gun. He was standing with his two hands placed over the muzzle of the gun when one of his dogs frisking about him, struck the trigger with his tail causing the piece to discharge, and the load was driven through both his hands. They have been lacerated in such a manner as to make it likely he will lose them both.

Runaway: William Pearson’s blonde horses took a very speedy runaway. They went down Telegraph Street like winter lightning leaving the driver spilt in the snow.

Warden election: Frank McCullough was elected by a unanimous vote of the Legislature. It is a compliment never before paid to any man in this state. He knows the difference between parsimony and extravagance, and as a disciplinarian, has combined a humanitarian treatment with such discipline as is absolutely necessary.

Leisure Hour Club: The regular meeting of the Leisure Hour Club will feature Rev. H. H. McCreery’s subject “Letters From the Front,” and Mrs. Chester Taylor will take up the “World of the Week.”

Governor Colcord’s home: The establishment of a childcare center at the Old Governor Colcord home on Telegraph and Spear streets was discussed with vigorous opposition by Pat Moran. She said the establishment of commercial enterprises in an area designated as historic, and specifically the operation of a child care center, at the home of Nevada’s 7th Governor, is not appropriate.

Tragic: Miss Walker who resided at Brecon Mills in Ontario, died suddenly. Her betrothed, Edward Cousins, hearing of her death, cut his throat. Miss Walker’s mother upon seeing the corpse dropped dead.

Only fair faro: The eclipse of the moon temporarily emptied the faro and card rooms. The dealers talk of calling for a relief bill.

Remedy for pneumonia: Saturate a ball of cotton one inch in diameter with spirits of grain alcohol, add three drops of chloroform to each ball of cotton, place between the patient’s teeth (after first using Vaseline on the gums to prevent burning) and let the patient inhale the fumes in long, deep breaths for 15 minutes; then rest for 15 minutes or more; inhale again and repeat the above. Photo caption: Celebrating 20th Birthday — The John C. Fremont Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution celebrated the chapter’s 20th birthday at Heidi’s. A cake was baked for the celebration and a scroll was given to Mrs. John E. Beaupeurt, honoring her as the chapters founding regent. Mrs. Beaupeurt was the chapters first regent. Officers of the club are front, Mrs. Lucy Crowell, chapter registrar, Mrs. C. J. Thornton, secretary, Mrs. Beaupeurt. In the back is Mrs. Ethel Wait, chaplain and Mrs. Cameron Batjer, chapter regent.

Delta charges: Delta Air Lines is adding a $2 fee for all tickets except those purchased at its internet site. This may be a sign of the future where there is a charge for a human touch.

Bad temper: A sport-worth man found an honest faro game and decided to go through with it. The young man went up for a few 20s. His angry passions rose and after hurling at the honest dealer all the epithets, deliberately drew his revolver and shot the “case keeper.” He did not kill the man, but merely wreaked his vengeance that an inoffensive box that sits directly in front of the dealer.

Items of town interest: The ladies of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will hold a Fair the middle of February. The feast and merry-making will include something sumptuous in the way of good things to eat and drink, and there will be some acting of plays, some spectacular and pantomimical things.

Morgan gets new Vietnam Assignment: PFC Robert J. Morgan, son of Mr. and Mrs. William R. Morgan of Carson City, has returned to Vietnam following a furlough at home. Morgan is on an extended tour of duty and is presently attached to the Advisory Team 87, 43rd Regiment. Prior to his present assignment he had completed a tour of duty with the Airborne and Military Police.
