Local roundup: Carson High girls comeback falls short

The Carson High girls basketball team couldn’t quite overcome a 14-point fourth quarter deficit in a 52-44 loss at Damonte Ranch on Tuesday.

Carson trailed 44-30 early in the fourth quarter when Abby Golik caught fire as she went on to score 11 of her 15 points in the final period. Golik hit three three-pointers during the run to help the Senators rally.

Golik hit two straight threes during a personal 8-0 run that brought Carson to within 44-38. Bella Kordonowy then hit her second three to pull Carson to within 46-41 and Golik hit another three to pull CHS to within 48-44 but that was as close as the Senators would get. The Senators could overcome a first quarter in which the Mustangs took a 21-11 lead.

Kordonowy scored 12 points and Lily Bouza added seven points. CHS will play at Wooster at 5:15 p.m. Friday.

CHS boys fall

Carson played catchup throughout and couldn’t get over the hump in a 58-45 loss at Damonte Ranch. Parsa Hadjighasemi hit four three-pointers on his way to scoring 16 points for CHS.

“Damonte and coach (Brian) Voyles did a good job of pushing us out of our half-court offense,” Carson coach Jordan Glover said. “They play hard and are very physical. Disciplined team. Voyles does a good job.

“My guys played hard but we had too many empty possessions that led to their fast break points.”

CHS will play at Wooster at 7 p.m. Friday.

Sierra Lutheran boys win

The Sierra Lutheran boys basketball team outscored Pyramid Lake 16-3 in the second quarter to take a 28-15 halftime lead on its way to a 49-39 win on Tuesday. The Falcons improved to 3-0 in league play.

Luke Bonafede had 11 points and two steals and Hunter Lamprecht scored 10 points for the Falcons.

“They played great team basketball tonight,” Sierra Lutheran coach Ben Walther said. “They very unselfishly worked together — patient on offense and we had a lot of timely stops on defense.”

Sierra Lutheran girls fall

The Sierra Lutheran girls basketball team fell just short in a 28-26 loss to Pyramid Lake. Amanda Almeida and freshman Ava Mellum each scored nine points for the Falcons.

Dayton girls fall

The Dayton girls basketball team lost to Fernley 45-16 on Wednesday. Aleea Howe had five points and two steals and Shainey Vincent and Morgan Boehme each added four points for the Dust Devils.

I thought we played tougher in the second half and I think our girls rotated much better on defense,” Dayton coach Kelly Frantz said.
