SPARKS — The Greenwave baseball team opened its 2019 season with a doubleheader sweep at Sparks, 22-0 and 25-0.
Sparks has cancelled its Friday games for the season.
Sparks, which has a limited number of players on the varsity, did not field a junior varsity team. Fallon coach Lester de Braga said Fallon’s junior varsity played in the second game.
Fallon is 2-0 in the Northern 3A and plays Fernley at 2 p.m. on Friday and a doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Larry Barker will broadcast Friday’s game on KKTU 99.5 FM or on the Internet at www.network1sports.com/station/kktu.
Brenden Larsen picked up the win in the first game and received offensive support as his teammates banged out 17 hits in the four-inning game. Fallon scored six runs in the first, three in the second and one in the third inning. In the final inning, the Wave scored 12 runs.
Edgar Alvarado had three hits — two of which were doubles — and three RBIs to lead Fallon. Players having two hits included Nate Galusha, Tommy McCormick, Bryce Larsen, Chase Irvin and Shaw Lee. Sean McCormick, Brenden Larsen, Brandon Rehkop and Daniel Seline each had a hit.
Irvin had the big day with four RBIs. Rehkop and Lee each knocked in three runs. Brenden Larsen, Lee and Irvin each doubled.
No statistics were available for the second game.
