Carson Schools Superintendent to speak at Democratic luncheon
The featured speaker at Monday’s Democratic luncheon will be Carson City Superintendent of Schools Richard Stokes. He will address the staff and technology cuts needed to achieve a planned $2.9 million deficit reduction.
Meanwhile state legislators are putting the finishing touches on a revision to Nevada’s K12 funding formula that will give Clark County schools a larger piece of the education pie without that pie getting any larger.
Stokes will speak to the potential impact of the revised formula on Carson City’s schools.
An Idaho native, Richard Stokes began his education career as a high school science teacher in Wyoming. In 1995, having completed his graduate work in school administration, he moved to Nevada, where he first became the high school principal and schools superintendent in Hawthorne before joining the Carson City School District in 2001 as Associate Superintendent of Human Resources. He has served as Superintendent since 2008. During his tenure, Stokes has served as the governor’s appointee to the State School Board and President of the Nevada Association of School Superintendents. In 2014 he was honored as Nevada’s Superintendent of the Year.
This event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Monday, in the banquet room of Carson City’s Round Table, on Retail Drive just off College Parkway. Sponsored by the Democratic Men’s Committee, these luncheons help keep the lights on at Carson City’s Democratic HQ. Suggested donations of $5 or more gratefully accepted but aren’t required. All are welcome.
