Roger Diez: Formula One wraps up racing season

The 2019 racing season draws to a close Sunday, as Formula One holds their finale at Abu Dhabi. This will be the 11th annual race at the desert venue, and Mercedes has been the dominant team, winning the last five outings. Lewis Hamilton leads the driver stats with four wins, three with Mercedes and one with McLaren, while Sebastian Vettel has three victories, all for Red Bull.

The once-fierce rivalry between the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco had a bit of everything during a heated stretch early this decade capped by Seattle’s epic win in the NFC title game in January 2014.

Roger Diez: Desperation time for NASCAR drivers

The state of Texas was the place to be for motorsports fans last weekend. NASCAR was racing at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth while Formula One competed at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin. There was even a crossover, as Gene Haas, who owns teams in both series, brought a two-seater stock car for his F1 drivers to play with. Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean got some coaching from Haas’s NASCAR co-owner, Tony Stewart, who knows a little about stock car driving, before giving each other rides in the two-seater.

Truex has always professed to be bad at the short tracks, but he absolutely dominated at the .526-mile Martinsville “paperclip.” He led 464 of the 500 laps, won both stages, and scored the maximum number of points, 60. OAKLAND, Calif. — The Raiders have taken nine long flights, traveled about 20,000 miles and overhauled the bottom portion of their roster since last playing a game at the Oakland Coliseum. Having survived the nearly seven-week odyssey by winning two of five games to remain in the thick of the AFC playoff race, the Raiders (3-4) are excited to return for a three-game homestand that will determine how long they will stay in contention.

Pack downs Colorado Christian 86-55 in exhibition

RENO (Nevada Athletics) — The University of Nevada men’s basketball team had five players score in double figures on Wednesday night at Lawlor Events Center as the Wolf Pack defeated Colorado Christian 86-55 in an exhibition contest. The Pack is 2-0 in exhibition play and host Utah on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the regular season home opener.
