For former Nevada Wolf Pack basketball player Tyron Criswell, the NBA G-League draft Saturday will represent a chance to excel at one final level. Carson High boys soccer couldn’t have asked for a better start to open its Sierra League contest against Bishop Manogue Saturday, scoring twice within the game’s first 10 minutes.
Last weekend’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup race at Talladega was as exciting and unpredictable as always. Ryan Blaney propelled himself from likely elimination from the playoffs into a guaranteed spot in the round of eight. His 0.007 second win over Ryan Newman was the sixth-closest finish in NASCAR history. Blaney’s win came at the expense of previous Talladega winners like Brad Keselowski and teammate Joey Logano, who had dominated at the track in recent years.

DAYTON — The wind blew from the opposite direction and temperatures dropped in the second round of Stage One Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying at Dayton Valley Golf Club. And players felt the effect as scores rose higher than in the first round and the veteran players in the field took advantage.
The Nevada Wolf Pack’s football season is at a crossroads. “In my opinion, we have a one-game season this week,” coach Jay Norvell said. “You can say that the urgency has stepped up a little bit.”
It’ll be no secret to the Carson High football faithful what kind of challenges Bishop Manogue will present Friday. The Miners are 2-3 this year, but are coming off a 2018 campaign in which they fell to Bishop Gorman in the 4A state title game.

MINDEN – Carson and Douglas boys soccer played to a near draw in the opening half before the Senators pulled away with a 3-0 win Saturday afternoon.

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup’s version of musical chairs eliminated four players at the Charlotte roval. Chase Elliott took his Hendrick Racing Camaro to the win, but not until overcoming a restart issue that saw him nosing into the turn one tire wall on a restart. Teammate Alex Bowman finished second but had to have medical attention after the race for heat exhaustion, as in-car temperatures approached 130 degrees. The track was modified from last year, with the addition of a chicane on the back straight and the elimination of an infield loop
Things got a little hairy for Douglas High football in the third quarter Friday night, but it didn't change the end result as the Tigers beat Wooster 42-22 to open Sierra League play.
