Genoa, Nev. — Minden Town Board members voted 4-0 to recommend approval of the specific plan for 1,044 acres of Park Ranch Holidings land proposed for an agrihood. With the exception of a couple of roads, all of the developed portion of the project is in the county seat. It goes to planning commissioners on Tuesday.
Douglas County reported a fifth coronavirus death, 28 new cases and four recoveries as of Wednesday night, which put the county at 524 active and 551 recoveries. That death was the second in two days.
Seven-year Genoa resident R. “Alex” Alexander was recommended to fill the seat on the town board coming open in January. Board member Patricia Eckman said she applied because she thought no one else was and said she was happy to have Alexander. Senior town board member Linda Birdwell gladly took the two-year term on the new board.
Resolution of the tie for the fifth seat on the Skyland General Improvement District will be settled by drawing cards 9 a.m. Dec. 9 at Tahoe Township Justice Court, according to Douglas County Clerk-Treasurer Kathy Lewis. Candidates Dennis Berry and Richard Nice both received 104 votes.
For the first time in eight years, Gardnerville won’t be hosting fireworks tonight, but they will turn on their Christmas light display in Heritage Park, which includes a selection of Christmas music you can hear over your radio. The frequency should be on a sign somewhere along Gilman Avenue. Minden and Genoa are turning their lights on Friday evening for the holiday.
There’s the slightest hint of a possibility we might see some flurries on Sunday, but don’t get attached. Until then it’s pretty much sunny skies and highs in the 50s.
