The Dec. 7, 2020, R-C Morning Report

Genoa, Nev. — Eighty years ago on Dec. 6, 1940, The R-C reported that Naval aviator Lawrence Jacobsen transferred to Hawaii where he eventually joined the cruiser USS Astoria’s floatplane crew.

The Astoria was escorting carriers on Dec. 6, and the scout planes flew ahead to Ford Island in time for the Dec. 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. “Jake” would return to Carson Valley after the war and became the longest-serving legislator in Nevada history. Jake’s Wetlands in Minden are named after him.

Flags have been ordered to half-staff today in memory of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. There are only a handful of Pearl Harbor survivors remaining as they approach 100 years old.

Douglas added 119 new coronavirus cases over the weekend with 10 recoveries. According to figures released by Douglas County Emergency Management on Sunday evening, the county has 688 active cases with 577 recoveries and six deaths.

Mono County went on lockdown last night as California issued stay-at-home orders for a big portion of the Golden State’s residents. Alpine and El Dorado counties aren’t on the list yet, but they could be very soon.

Expect sunny skies today with a high temperature of 47 degrees and the wind out of the north at 5-10 mph. It looks like we’ll get to the ides of December without a drop of precipitation.
