Vote totals change, but results hold firm

Candidates who were ahead on Tuesday were still ahead on Friday evening after vote counters added another 5,202 votes to Douglas County’s tally.

As of 4:30 p.m. Thursday, members of the Douglas County counting board completed their work and new results were posted at govotedouglas.com.

The closest countywide race was for the Open Space Advisory question, which was within 1,000 votes on Tuesday. However, the “Nays” actually widened their margin of victory from 933 to 970.

Both county questions 1 and 2 were also defeated by wide margins. Douglas voters said they wanted to see a redevelopment agency at Stateline dissolved by a margin of 17,366-13,014. The diesel tax was also rejected by voters, 18,581-13,346.

As of Thursday night, 33,574 votes were counted bringing the county’s total turnout to 86.5 percent. That’s short of Douglas’ typical 90-plus turnout for a presidential election, but there are still 139 ballots requiring signature cures. Those voters may contact the Clerk’s Office and fix their signatures before Nov. 12.

The vote is still unofficial pending canvass by Douglas County commissioners on Nov. 16.

Slightly more than half of the 39,038 mailed ballots were returned either by the mail or in person, bringing that total to 19,826 accepted ballots.

A total of 456 voters registered and cast a ballot on the same day. Any of those from Election Day will require verification that they didn’t vote elsewhere before those votes are counted.
