The CVMC Hospital Foundation donated funds to Carson Valley Medical Center for the purchase of a BioFire Array System for the laboratory. This BioFire technology helps healthcare providers improve patient care by providing quicker and more accurate comprehensive testing results for respiratory illnesses including COVID-19.

“It helps providers and clinicians diagnose and provide confidence in the right treatment decisions for their patients,” said Laboratory Manager Cheryll Butalon.

The BioFire instrument performs a highly complex test, and the most reliable multiplexed or Polymerase Chain Reaction test instrument gives an excellent specificity and sensitivity. The equipment tests for 32 different organisms and provides results in 15 minutes. This will help CVMC deliver proper treatment and reduce patient hospital stays by providing fast and accurate pathogen identification.

“This instrument helps healthcare workers provide better patient care, greater satisfaction by delivering the proper treatment,” Butalon stated.

The center thanked its donors and the Foundation.
