Reno woman held in car theft

A Reno woman who was allegedly caught rifling through someone else’s vehicle is facing a felony auto theft charge.

Stephanie Eileeen Murdock Martinez, 40, appeared in East Fork Justice Court on Monday.

Martinez was spotted going through a Jeep parked at the United Federal Credit Union during lunchtime Nov. 5.

She left the scene in a Honda Civic, which deputies pulled over on Highway 395 and Mica Drive.

The Civic had been reported stolen in Sparks. Attorney Brian Filter was appointed to represent Martinez and she was ordered held in lieu of $10,000 bail. A Nov. 18 hearing date was set for her to return to court.

■ Two Californians allegedly on a gun-buying trip to Carson City are facing felony charges.

Gabriel Angel Luna, 34, is being held in Douglas County custody on a fugitive warrant and a charge of an ex-felon in possession of a firearm.

Luna and Adrienne Ann Gonzalez were arrested late on Oct. 26 after deputies contacted the owners of a Subaru with bullet holes in the rear side.

A search revealed that Gonzalez had almost a gram of methamphetamine and a handgun in her purse.

Between them, the couple was carrying around $3,800 they told deputies was for the purchase.

Luna is scheduled to appear in East Fork Justice Court on Nov. 18.

■ A Carson City woman is scheduled to appear in Douglas County District Court on Nov. 24 in connection with her arrest on several felonies.

April Dawn Palomo, 43, was taken into custody after deputies contacted her on Oct. 25. A warrant for her arrest had been issued out of East Fork Justice Court for an alternative sentencing violation in connection with another drug possession charge.

During a search they allegedly found at least four other people’s credit cards, including one that was reported stolen at a Stateline casino on Oct. 17.

A man in the vehicle, who gave deputies a false name, was also taken into custody after the information he gave didn’t match.

Deputies found a bag with seven cell phones during their search of the vehicle.

Michael Wayne Mitchell, 35, is scheduled to appear in East Fork Justice Court Nov. 18 on a charge of identity theft and possession of a credit card without consent.
