Genoa, Nev. — Community coronavirus testing and a flu clinic is being conducted 2-4 p.m. at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center in Gardnerville for Douglas, Carson, Lyon and Storey residents. Bring an insurance card or $20 for the flu shot. Douglas had nine new cases and seven recoveries to bring the current active cases to 39 people. We cracked 500 recoveries over the weekend.
Gardnerville’s Christmas Kick-off has been scuppered by the new directives on gatherings, and I wager that’s just the first notice I’ve received on cancellations. I’m happy to wait for official notice rather than speculate, but I advise that you don’t get attached. The new measures take effect today.
It looks like the Mountain View Fire is down for the county with snow covering the 30 percent of the fire that isn’t listed as contained. Fire officials say there isn’t enough surface fuels to allow the fire to spread beyond it’s 21,000 acres.
The Stateline casinos continue to make year over year gains in an effort to erase losses from earlier this year. The casinos posted a $21.6 million win in October, up 10.87 percent from last year. That might come to a screeching halt with the new directives.
The Douglas County Library Board of Trustees meets virtually 10 a.m. today to discuss a variety of policies, none of which deal with the diversity policy from last summer, unless you count cats. To listen to the meeting, visit www.douglascountynv.gov and click on agendas and minutes.
Expect sunny skies today with a high temperature around 50 degrees and the wind out of the north at 5 mph. There’s still a slight chance of precipitation forecast for Wednesday.
