Valley puts the giving into Thanksgiving

A drive-through Thanksgiving lunch at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center served 297 meals on Wednesday and collected $1,200 in donations.

Gift and angel trees are springing up at businesses all over Carson Valley, as are boxes to donate coats, hats, mittens, books and even gifts for pets.

Project Santa Claus, which has provided Christmas to thousands of children over the last third of a century, is underway with the help of several organizations including the Kiwanis Club, Minden Rotary, Carson Valley Lions, Carson Valley Sertoma and the Carson Valley Active 20-30 Club.

Tax deductible monetary donations (Fed EIN 81-4108034) may be mailed to Project Santa Claus, PO Box 3031 Gardnerville, NV 89410. The Project can also acknowledge in memorial gifts and gifts offered in someone else’s name.

Carson Valley Sertoma donated $1,000 to The City of Refuge, a home where single pregnant women may have their babies.

Lions are fundraising for their charitable works by selling See’s Candy.
