Genoa, Nev. — The Northern Mono Chamber of Commerce is gathering donations for the more than 100 family displaced by the Mountain View Fire in Walker. You can send donations to NMCC, 106651 Highway 395, Coleville, CA, 96701. Write Mountain View Fire Relief in the subject line.

The Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce is encouraging residents to shop small on Saturday, supporting local businesses. For more information, visit www.carsonvalleynv.org/small-business-saturday/

2020 might have offered yet another take on Black Friday. The sales have been ongoing for the past three weeks, so I’m not sure why people would flock to the big box stores. Some habits are harder to break than others, I guess.

It’s my impression that Thanksgiving passed in relative quiet in Douglas County on Thursday. It’s also Family Day, which means local, county and state offices are closed today. The mail is running today.

It’s a tad chilly out this morning at 17 degrees. The high today is expected to rise to 45 degrees, with the wind out of the southeast at 5 mph dying down as the day progresses.
