Genoa, Nev. — I got word there was a house fire off Foothill Road between Muller and Mottsville from around 10 p.m. Wednesday night. I’ll be following up with that this morning.
Vacation Home Rentals will be the main discussion at today’s Douglas County commissioners meeting, but the real money is in the $4.9 million contract with Sierra Nevada Construction to build the Cave Rock water system. County commissioners meet 1 p.m. today in person at the CVIC Hall in Minden. You can follow along at www.douglascountynv.gov by clicking watch board meetings.
Guiding that Cave Rock project will be County Engineering Manager Ron Roman’s last big project, as he is retiring after 25 years with the county. During that time, he has kept a fairly low profile with his name showing up more as a contact in project bid legals than in the news.
Anyone who wants graduate level detail about Douglas County should take a look at the 150-page plus offering from the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension in today’s commission packet. I haven’t had time to do more than scan the Nevada Economic Assessment Project presentation, but I will dive in at some point.
With only two new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday and only 173 active cases in Douglas County, it appears the virus is starting to crater. It’s pretty clear that when eligibility for the vaccine expands on Monday, there’s going to be some issues getting an appointment. If you’re eligible and want one I’d suggest hitting nvcovidfighter.org to get an appointment before the rush.
Expect sunny skies and a high of 72 degrees today. The wind will pick up out of the west at 10-15 mph, gusting to 30 mph this afternoon.
