While plastic eggs and chocolate bunnies are stocked on grocery store shelves, an early Easter this year will affect some of the usual events.
Despite reserving 600 dozen eggs and working on state paperwork necessary to conduct the traditional Easter egg hunt at Lampe Park, the Carson Valley Active 20-30 Club has canceled the event for the second year in a row.
“That required paperwork, as well as the ever changing guidelines laid down by the state, make it nearly impossible to hold the Easter Egg Hunt,” spokesman Tommy Lovell said.
The club has discussed the potential for conducting the egg hunt at several meetings, but on March 24 decided it just wasn’t going to work out.
“The club has put our full attention and efforts toward hosting Carson Valley Days in June.”
The Douglas County Senior Center in Gardnerville is typically awash in pastel yellow, blue and pink for the holiday.
While dining inside remains out of reach, on Friday the center will host a drive-through hot lunch of ham and apple pie.
“With the Douglas County Senior Center and the congregate dining program still being closed, creative events are being offered to keep as many of the Douglas County senior residents engaged in activities,” center officials said.
The drive through event is from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., in front of the center. Suggested donation is $3 per meal for seniors 60 years and older, $7 per meal minimum rate for those younger than 60 years old.
A game of parking lot Bingo begins at 1:30 p.m., with the first card free and additional cards available for a donation.
For information, call the Douglas County Community & Senior Center at 775-782-5500 option 3.
The congregations of two Carson Valley churches have new homes in time for this season of renewal.
High Sierra Fellowship celebrated the first services on March 21 in their new church on Gilman Avenue in Gardnerville.
Work on the 22,000-square-foot church began in July 2019, but plans for a new site have been in the works for much longer. The church bought the location next to Heritage Park in 2016.
With a congregation of 500-600, High Sierra had been in the former Sierra Crest Academy building on Lucerne in Minden since 2011. The fellowship was founded in 1990.
That Lucerne location didn’t stay empty long, with Carson Valley Bible Church moving from its location in the Haas Center in Gardnerville to Minden.
