A May 1 golf tournament to benefit the 13-year-old grandson of a Gardnerville couple who is fighting a rare brain tumor filled up fast and organizers are hoping the same thing will happen with donations for a silent auction, raffle and a luncheon will quickly follow.
Daniel Hopkins was diagnosed with the tumor in December. He is the son of Douglas High graduates Elliot and Rachelle Hopkins and the grandson of Sal and Pat Messina.
He started getting headaches and double vision and when he went to the ER a Pineal Germ Cell Tumor was found in his brain.
Daniel is at the Benioff Oakland Children's Hospital in Oakland and has had three very
dangerous brain surgeries totaling over 40 hours in less than a month.
“He will be spending many long months of rehabilitation to hopefully re-learn most of his skills,” Cathy Messina said. “The bills for this young man are in the millions already, so any help that they receive is so very much appreciated and heartfelt.”
The golf tournament at Carson Valley Golf Course is being sponsored by Intero Realty and Kobe Custom Home.
A pasta luncheon is 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 1 at the Carson Valley Country Club at $25 per ticket
