On Thursday, Douglas County commissioners spent four hours working on a plan for the vacation home rental ordinance. They may take another look before bringing it back for a first reading. Concerns about corporations buying up rentals and density across Tahoe neighborhoods dominated the discussion.

Commissioners also reluctantly approved a plan to reopen the county for submission to the Nevada COVID Task Force. Not one of them agreed with continuing the mask mandate, but in the end they acknowledged there wasn’t much they could do about it.

Wednesday’s storm had a big finish with a snow squall that was popular with Carson Valley’s citizen photojournalists. Reno Meteorologist Chris Smallcomb described it as a classic snow or pellet shower, which are basically weak thunderstorms with anvils and occasionally lightning.

Expect sunny and cooler weather this weekend with a high temperature of 64 degrees both today and Saturday, warming up to 71 on Sunday. The wind will be blowing out of the north at 10-15 mph gusting to 30 mph today and 5-15 mph on Saturday.
