Genoa, Nev. — If it seems extra murky out this morning that’s because it is. Minden-Tahoe Airport is reading a visibility of seven miles. Air quality monitors in the Gardnerville Ranchos and Carson City are in the moderate range, but you don’t have to go far north before it starts getting much worse.

The Dixie Fire claimed another 23.76 square miles over the last 24 hours. Officially, the fire consumed 1,103 structures and is burning actively on its northeast front. At it’s closest, it’s about 9.5 miles from Susanville.

Living With Fire is hosting a virtual workshop today on preparing your home for a wildfire 11:30 a.m. today. You can register at www.livingwithfire.com/webinars

Sheep rancher Ted Borda will be talking about the business 6:30 p.m. today at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville as part of the Heritage Lecture Series.

The wind will be our friend this afternoon and may help clear out some of the smoke around 3 p.m. Expect sunny skies and a high of 98 degrees. The wind will pick up out of the northwest at 5-10 mph with a slight chance of thunderstorms, which will continue into the night.
