A California man with a warrant was arrested Saturday afternoon after he attempted to elude a deputy on Highway 395 in the North Valley.

Erik Jon Vlach, 31, appeared in East Fork Justice Court on Monday.

According to court documents, Vlach was northbound on 395 near Stephanie Way in a Nissan sedan when deputies noticed the registration had expired.

The driver of the sedan pulled into the median before the deputy could get behind him. The deputy made a U-turn, and then the Nissan pulled out and swung south at 86 mph with the deputy in pursuit running lights and sirens.

Vlach turned onto Airport Road, running the red light, according to deputies and then ducked onto Meridian. The deputy decided to wait until he had back-up to go into the development after him.

After back-up arrived the deputy went looking for the driver of the Nissan and found a man matching his description.

Vlach produced a drivers license that didn’t look like him and was taken into custody. He later told the deputy he found someone’s wallet at a gas station and used the ID to avoid being arrested on a warrant.
