Lt. Gov. Kate Marshall leaving state office for White House job

Gov. Steve Sisolak has the authority to appoint a new lieutenant governor after Kate Marshall officially leaves her office to take a position with the the Biden White House.

Marshall announced she was resigning her position to become senior advisor to governors within the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs.

“While I look forward to transitioning to the White House in the late fall, I will continue to serve in my current role as Lieutenant Governor until that time comes,” she said.

According to the governor’s office, once the vacancy is officially declared, Sisolak has the authority to appoint a new person to the office.

The appointee will then serve the unexpired term and may file for the office in 2022. To be selected a person must be 25, have lived in Nevada for two years and be a qualified voter. There is no deadline to appoint a new lieutenant governor, and Sisolak could leave the office open pending the election.
