Genoa, Nev. — Today’s Main Street Farmer’s Market in Gardnerville’s Heritage Park has been canceled, as has an art showcase scheduled at Corley Ranch, both due to the smoke. If there’s an outdoor event over the next few days make sure and check with organizers to see if it’s still on.

On Tuesday afternoon, as The R-C staff watched the smoke get thicker and thicker, we kept checking airnow.gov to figure out just how bad it was and that Ranchos Aspen Park stuck at moderate. The gauge wasn’t wrong, it was fairly clear in the Ranchos around 4 p.m. along a line that ran from around Industrial Way to just south of Kimmerling.

Apparently, when the smoke arrives in the Valley it takes a hard left north and hooks around. Ranchos residents weren’t free of the pall for long, as the monitor climbed into the red around 8 p.m. Just a reminder that Carson Valley is a big place with a lot of different microclimates.

The fire camera at Leek Springs overlooking the Caldor Fire showed active burning all night. The satellite mapping is showing the easternmost edge of the fire remains around nine miles west of Echo Summit. It’s early yet, but it appears to have slowed down a smidge.

Expect pretty much the same conditions today as Tuesday with widespread haze turning to smoke after 11 a.m. The zephyr will pick up out of the west at 10-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph. The high temperature is expected to reach 84 degrees.
