Former Genoa resident Richard Bell will celebrate his 100th birthday on Saturday.

A member of Citizens Patrol, he was honored as Volunteer of the Year by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in 2006. He was 85 when that honor was bestowed.

Richard served on the board of the Genoa Lakes Homeowners Association and was named low flight club champion for the Senior Men’s Golf Club at Empire Ranch in several years.

He was on the eve of his 95th birthday when he was photographed volunteering for Candy Dance in 2016.

When he and Louise arrived in Genoa Lakes in 1995, there were only five other homes on the golf course. They were the second people to move into Genoa Meadows.

On July 25, he was honored at the annual Friends of Genoa social for his years of service to Nevada’s oldest town.

The couple is now living at the Chateau in Gardnerville where they will celebrate Richard’s centennial on Friday. A private dinner party has been planned in Genoa for his birthday.
