Genoa, Nev. — As anticipated, there are road controls over both Kingsbury and Spooner in Douglas County as of 5:15 a.m. Road controls through the Sierra, include highways 88 and 89 from Hope Valley out. Monitor Pass closed on Monday in anticipation of the storm.

Douglas County’s Lake Tahoe school buses will be using the main stops this morning, the district said this morning, with a chance that the elementary school routes will be delayed depending on how the high school pick-up goes. The district expects to run the regular Tahoe route this afternoon.

The traffic camera on Highway 395 at Double Spring Flat is showing what appears to be heavy snow falling, so if headed through the Pine Nuts take it slow.

The scanner and the Nevada Highway Patrol site are quiet for Western Nevada around 6 a.m. I expect activity will pick up as people begin their commutes around the region.

The California Highway Patrol is posting chain controls on Highway 395 between Bridgeport and Lee Vining. As the storm moves south, that will likely expand. Interstate 80 and Highway 50 are both affected by controls.

The Heavenly Ski Resort snow stake camera is showing not quite 4 inches this morning near Tamarack Lodge at 9,136 feet. My gauge in Genoa had a fifth of an inch in it this morning at 5:30 a.m.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. today with rain expected to transition to a rain-snow mix between 7 and 10 a.m. before the snow level drops to the Valley floor. Expect a north wind at 5-10 mph, gusting to 20 mph.
