Genoa, Nev. — Santa is expected to arrive 8:30-9 a.m. today at the Carson Valley Inn via Care Flight helicopter for the Share Your Christmas Holiday Food Drive. Early birds are already at the Minden casino for a long day collecting donations for the Carson Valley Community Food Closet. They wrap up at 6 p.m.

Highway 50 was closed for about two hours on Thursday afternoon after a head-on collision near Presbyterian Curve. Conditions on 50 were slick after the storm. There is still some slush in the road over Kingsbury Grade, but not enough to prompt the state to implement controls.

Tickets may still be available for the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus performing 6:30 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gardnerville. The box office is open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at 1572 Highway 395 in Minden. You can also buy a ticket at the door starting 30 minutes before the performance. Check the coronavirus requirements before you buy a ticket.

If twang is more your thang (with apologies to Dondo Darue of the Risky Biscuit Hayseed Hoot), Genoa is hosting a concert featuring Cowboy Steve and Buddy Emmer 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Call the town today at 782-8696 to find out more.

If you spot several Santas barhopping in Gardnerville on Saturday night, it’s just part of the 12th annual Gardnerville Santa Crawl to raise money for nonprofits. Wristbands are a $10 donation at DST Coffee on Main Street. The costume contest is 10 p.m. at Buckaroo’s.

A winter storm watch has been issued for the Tahoe Basin for Saturday night with 1-4 feet of snow possible at Lake level and 306 feet above 7,000 feet. It’s going to be breezy up top with 100 mph winds forecast for the Sierra ridges and 2–4-foot waves on the Lake.

We get a break today with sunny skies and a high temperature of 38 degrees. Expect increasing cloudiness on Saturday as a winter storm approaches bringing rain and snow to the Valley floor by Sunday.
