Douglas County Recorder Karen Ellison has announced she won’t seek a fourth term and will retire at the end of her third term in December 2022.

Ellison was appointed to the office in 2008 and was re-elected in 2010, 2014, and 2018.

“I am extremely proud of the staff I have had the privilege to work with now and for the last thirteen plus years,” Ellison said. “They have consistently provided excellent customer service to the users of the Recorder’s Office and Records Center. I am regularly told by the public as well as many of the Douglas County employees, what a pleasure it is to be treated so well by the clerks in the recorders office and Records center and what a friendly, professional and helpful atmosphere they create while serving the public.”

During her tenure, she installed and implemented a new recording system, and digitized most of the real property documents, maps, and marriage licenses recorded in Douglas County since its inception. The development of technology in the office has enabled Karen and her staff to significantly improve the services of the office to its users while reducing staffing from a total of nine people when she started to six today.

“My term will end Dec. 31, 2022, and I would like to express my profound thanks to the residents of Douglas County for allowing me to serve as the county recorder for over 13 years. It has been a great privilege.”
