A request goes before the East Fork Fire Protection District Board to hire a contractor to serve as East Fork Fire District’s deputy chief of operations over the next six months while the district looks for a replacement for Jeff Veliquette, who retired after a year. The board will also consider the boundaries for its trustees at its 1 p.m. meeting at district offices on 1695 County Road.

Douglas deputies and East Fork firefighters responded to a report of a couple of booms and light flashes near Langley in the Gardnerville Ranchos around 6:20 p.m. Monday. Reports of fireworks going off continued into the night. Fireworks are illegal in Douglas County and occasionally people get caught with them.

It will be a relatively nice first day of winter today with mostly sunny skies and a high of 45 degrees and the wind out of the southeast at around 5 mph, calming in the afternoon. First chance of moisture this week won’t be until late tonight, if then. It’s going to be fairly soupy through Thursday, though.
