Markleeville man killed in Thursday night shooting

A Markleeville man is dead of multiple gunshots and another is in custody after Alpine County deputies responded to a shots fired call on Thursday night.

James Foley was found dead on the front porch of his home at Sierra Pines Mobile Home Park located along Highway 89 on the road between Woodfords and Markleeville.

Christopher Joseph Torok, 49, is in custody in connection with the shooting, according to El Dorado County Sheriff Jail records.

Torok was taken into custody at 9 p.m. by Alpine County Sheriff’s deputies.

He is being held without bail on one count of felony murder.

No one else was injured in the shooting and authorities say there is no danger to anyone else.

“The case is under investigation and no additional comment will be made until the investigation is concluded,” officials said on Friday morning.
