Genoa, Nev. — Douglas County Search and Rescue Team members went out on Christmas afternoon to rescue an out-of-bounds skier. Deputies were working to get a motor home unstuck on what sounded like Jacks Valley Road. If you’re working in this, thank you very much for your service. If you don’t need to be somewhere today, stay home.
We’re seeing 20-30 mph wind gusts on the Highway 395-88 corridor and that means slick roads and low visibility on this morning’s commute, so be careful out there.
Horse Meadows in the swale between Jobs and Freel peaks is up to 70 inches on the ground at 5 a.m. today, according to the snow telemetry. That’s 21 inches of new snow since Christmas morning, and it appears to be falling at about 3 inches per hour over the last two hours.
Minden recorded 11 inches of snow over the weekend which brought the Douglas County seat up to 3.3 inches of moisture for December, with more in the cards.

The R-C is closed today for a couple of reasons, but mainly because it’s when we decided to take our Christmas holiday, which seems a bit prescient, now. We’ll reopen on Tuesday morning.
The forecast for today is frightful, with snow falling mostly before 1 p.m. and a high of 32 degrees. Winds are out of the southwest at 15-20 mph, gusting to 35 mph. We could see another 1-2 inches of snow accumulate today, but with the wind it will be drifting.
