Genoa, Nev. — There was a good turnout for coronavirus vaccinations on Thursday afternoon with the line down the hall at the Senior Center. It took me around 45 minutes to get my third dose and complete my 15-minute timeout. I’m one of 28,995 Douglas residents who’ve taken the shot. They’ll be down vaccinatin’ again 4-5:30 p.m. Jan. 5.

The Board of Regents voted Thursday to keep the vaccine requirement for employees, which will result in 379 being terminated, 188 ending a contract and 18 resignations out of the 22,240 people working for the states colleges and universities. Those who are terminated have until Jan. 31 to change their minds.

Douglas County reported 76 new cases and 74 recoveries over the past week and is easing up to seven new cases a day. As of the end of 2021, there are 1,029 active cases and 4,152 recoveries, which is a little higher than a tenth of the county’s 49,695 residents.

Thursday was Carson City Health and Human Services’ last emailed bulletin. You can still track the virus’ progress at https://nvhealthresponse.nv.gov though it runs about two days behind.

This is the last weekend before school starts up again on Tuesday. The district is required to update its in-person instruction plan every six months and has a survey at https://survey.k12insight.com/survey1.aspx?k=RQsQPSURsTQTsPsPsP〈=0 through Jan. 12.

We’re going to wrap up the 2021 with 9.48 inches of precipitation or a smidge over the 9.34-inch average. This last month was responsible for more than a third with 3.33 inches with October ponying up 3.05 inches. We wrapped up the month with a foot of snow since July 1.

The forecast 5-degree low tonight isn’t even in the ballpark for coldest New Year’s Eves. Minden recorded a minus 14 degree low in 1987. Stateline is supposed to see 9 degrees tonight. There’s a slight chance of snow this afternoon. The high temperature today is 37 degrees.
