Genoa, Nev. — The Genoa Cemetery Association will be doing some work on the Virgin plot after a crabapple’s roots started knocking the markers askew. From what I hear they’ll be clearing out the offending plant and reset the stones, including that of Candy Dance co-founder Lillian Virgin Finnegan.

Main Street Gardnerville is hosting a Discover Downtown mingle 5:30 p.m. today at Circle S Western Market in Gardnerville.

We had a little excitement at The R-C Building on Wednesday afternoon when deputies caught up with someone who’d made off with a reported $178 in merchandise from the Gardnerville Walmart and was pulled over near Joyce’s. Both occupants of the black Chevrolet sedan and the sedan were taken into custody.

Firefighters responded to a fire call near Drayton and Centerville around 4 p.m. Wednesday that wound up being a barbecue smoker. There was some black smoke above Carson in Voltaire Canyon that resulted from a controlled burn.

I finally dumped out my rain gauge on Wednesday night after all the snow and ice had melted and had 4 inches over the last week of January.

A red dawn this morn indicates that sailors and just plain folks should be warned, at least a little. Rain is likely tonight though the snow level is forecast to stay well above the Valley floor. Snow is still in the forecast for Saturday.

Today expect a slight chance of rain after 10 a.m. with a high temperature of 53 degrees and the wind out of the southeast at 5-15 mph shifting southwest with gusts of 25 mph. The low tonight will tickle freezing, so there might be some ice on Friday morning over the mountains.
