Genoa, Nev. — I’m going to take it from the large snowball obscuring the Daggett Summit traffic camera that Kingsbury is fairly snowy this morning. Road controls are in effect above 5,000 feet on Kingsbury, Highway 50 at Lake Tahoe and Highway 395 through the Pine Nuts.

There’s a dusting of snow in the Valley north of Genoa so we must have received a blast of cold air. There’s also an icy sheen on hard surfaces, so I would anticipate a slick commute this morning. My rain gauge had .75 inches of precipitation in it this morning.

Two weeks ago, I was but a kid. Now, I’m a senior, at least according to the county. As a newly minted 60-year-old I can participate in today’s Senior Center Valentine’s Day hot lunch for $3. Everyone younger is $7. The menu features hot chicken parmesan and will be available 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. I plan on going to take photos, although…

Carson Pass saw 9 inches of snow since noon Thursday, which translated into nearly another inch of water. Ebbetts Pass saw 13 inches of snow from the storm, which added 1.5 inches of water. Most of the Sierra snow telemetry sites are reading between 70 and 85 percent this morning.

It looks like most of the precipitation this Washington’s Birthday weekend will be overnight with the sun coming out during the day today, Saturday and Sunday. Monday will be a tad rainy.

There’s a slight chance of rain or snow today before 7 a.m. when the sun is forecast to break through. Give it an hour or so and any ice that developed overnight should melt off the roads.
