Man faces felonies in domestic battery

A man accused of breaking a woman’s rib and giving her a concussion is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail.

Manuel Dejesus Gutierrez, 39, was taken into custody in Gardnerville on Feb. 9 afternoon on felony domestic battery and coercion charges.

Deputies were called to Carson Valley Medical Center around 1 p.m. to interview a woman who was receiving treatment for injuries received the previous night.

She told deputies Gutierrez struck her on the head with a cell phone and punched her several times in the head and body.

Gutierrez faces charges of domestic battery with a prior felony and coercion.

Attorney Kris Brown was appointed to represent him and he was ordered to return to East Fork Justice Court on Feb. 24.

• A Carson man waived a preliminary hearing on Wednesday and was ordered to face a felony charge of possession of a stolen vehicle.

Damyn Robert French, 30, was arrested in Fallon last year with 2010 Honda Civic reported taken from the Topaz Lodge on Sept. 10, 2020.

The owner of the Honda said he was staying at the RV Park and went out and started the Civic to warm it up before leaving it to get his lunch out of the trailer.

He heard the vehicle drive off and reported it stolen. It was recovered in Fallon.

French was arrested on a warrant out of district court on Feb. 4.

French is scheduled to appear for arraignment on Feb. 23.

• A man who admitted to striking a pedestrian at Lake Tahoe was taken into custody on Feb. 10 on a probation violation.

Joseph James Anderson, 31, was convicted of reckless driving causing substantial bodily harm after admitting he hit a pedestrian walking along Highway 50 at Lake Tahoe in March 2016.

Anderson was sentenced to 1-3 years in September 2016 and his probation is scheduled to expire this year. He is scheduled to appear in district court on Feb. 23.
