Genoa, Nev. — The East Fork Fire is likely better than the official 45 percent containment reported by fire officials last night. It’s not generating any smoke this morning that I could see from the fire cameras. Wednesday’s estimated containment date sounds likely.


Alpine County is reporting that a lost 17-year-old Minden resident was found dead after a weekend long search near Lost Lakes near Blue Lakes. Hadyn Miguel was identified after he was found at the bottom of a cliff. Another 17-year-old was reportedly pulled from Lake Tahoe near Secret Cove around 6 p.m. Monday and was receiving CPR.


I heard on Monday that Douglas County Miss Outstanding Teen Cheyenne McCormick won first runner-up in the state pageant on Friday. Congratulations to her and her family.


The Gardnerville Town Board holding a public hearing today to discuss approving an increase in trash rates 4:30 p.m. today. If approved a 90-gallon residential tote will go from $20.11 monthly to $22.52 on Jan. 1 and $24.32 on July 1, 2023. They need to have a second public hearing next month.


A reader sent me a note that scammers are calling claiming to be from a television service provider and saying they need a credit card to upgrade the receiver due to a change in broadcast frequency. Don’t give people who call you out of the blue your credit card, social security or phone number, for that matter.


An excessive heat watch has been issued for Western Nevada for next weekend starting Saturday afternoon and lasting through Monday evening. High temperatures are expected to hit 102 on Saturday and Sunday, so prepare accordingly.


Today’s not exactly going to be cool, with a high temperature forecast to hit 98 degrees under mostly sunny skies. The wind will pick up out of the west this afternoon 10-15 mph with the wind gusting to 25 mph.
